Q. How do I know if a therapist is right for me?
A. Dr. Keith encourages you to call and ask questions regarding her philosophy and style of treatment. You can explain a little bit about your situation and get a feel for her style. Dr. Keith will spend up to 30 minutes answering your questions and addressing your concerns over the phone.
Q. When does Dr. Keith see patients?
A. Office hours may vary, but Dr. Keith is typically available between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Q. What should I expect when I call?
A. When you call, you will likely be directed to Dr. Keith's voicemail. Simply leave a detailed message with your name, phone number, and the best times to reach you. Also please indicate whether she may leave a message at that number. If you leave a message for Dr. Keith, she will make every effort to return your call by the end of the business day or within 24 hours.
Q. How long are the sessions?
A. Sessions are typically 45-50 minutes long. Please arrive 10 minutes early for the first session with Dr. Keith to complete necessary paperwork.
Q. How long does therapy usually last?
A. The duration of therapy depends upon the presenting issue or issues. Dr. Keith will discuss the likely duration with each client.
Q. How often do I have to come? Do I have to commit to a set number of sessions?
A. Though frequency of appointments also depends upon your individual situation, it can range from once a week to twice a month.
Q. What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
A. A psychologist is a Doctor of Psychology or Doctor of Philosophy who treats clients with a variety of methods that do not involve prescribing medication. A psychiatrist is a Medical Doctor who primarily prescribes psychotropic medications to patients as a way to address psychological issues.
Q. So, is there someone in your practice who can prescribe medication?
A. Yes, Dr. Keith would be happy to refer you to a psychiatrist, homeopath, nutritionist, acupuncturist, or any other practitioner if it is determined that it may be helpful to treatment.
